Saya berhenti untuk membaca plakat yang tergantung di ruang tunggu di kantor dokter: "Biarlah percakapan berlalu. Biarlah tawa lenyap. Di tempat inilah maut dengan senang hati menolong yang hidup."

Jelas, ini bukan dokter biasa. Saya sedang melakukan kunjungan ke Dr. Robert J. Stein, salah satu ahli patologi forensik yang terkenal di dunia, seorang detektif medis yang flamboyan, bersuara parau, dan biasanya menyuguhi saya dengan kisah-kisah tentang petunjuk yang tidak terduga, yang ditemukannya ketika memeriksa jenazah. Bagi dia, jenazah benar-benar menceritakan kisah-kisah ­- kenyataannya, yang sering kali akan membawa keadilan bagi orang yang hidup.

Stein bekerja sebagai penguji medis di Cook Country, Illinois dan telah melakukan ribuan autopsi dengan teliti guna mencari pengetahuan mengenai kematian korban. Matanya yang awas akan hal-hal detail, pengetahuannya yang luas tentang anatomi manusia, dan intuisi penyelidikannya yang luar biasa, menolong Stein merekonstruksi kekerasan yang menyebabkan kematian korban.

Kadang-kadang hasil penelitiannya membersihkan nama orang-orang yang tidak bersalah dan merupakan paku terakhir di peti terdakwa. Seperti dalam kasus John Wayne Gacy, yang berhadapan dengan algojo, setelah Stein menolong untuk mencari bukti atas tiga puluh tiga tindakan pembunuhan mengerikan yang dilakukan John.

Begitulah, betapa bukti medis dapat menjadi penting sekali. Bukti-bukti tersebut dapat menentukan apakah seorang anak meninggal karena penyiksaan atau jatuh yang tidak disengaja. Bukti-bukti itu dapat menentukan apakah seseorang meninggal karena sebab yang alami atau dibunuh oleh seseorang yang membubuhi kopinya dengan arsenik. Bukti-bukti medis juga dapat menunjukkan secara tepat waktu kematian korban -- menggunakan sebuah prosedur sederhana, contohnya mengukur kadar potasium di mata jenazah, sehingga dapat menguatkan atau membongkar alibi terdakwa.

Bahkan dalam kasus seseorang yang secara brutal dihukum mati di atas salib Romawi dua ribu tahun yang lalu, bukti medis masih bisa memberikan sebuah kontribusi yang sangat penting: dapat menolong untuk menentukan apakah kebangkitan Yesus ­- pertahanan tertinggi atas klaim diri-Nya sebagai Tuhan -­ tidak lebih daripada sebuah cerita bohong yang rumit. Stein telah membuat saya terkesan akan nilai petunjuk-petunjuk forensik. Saya tahu inilah saatnya untuk mencari seorang ahli medis yang telah menyelidiki sepenuhnya fakta-fakta sejarah mengenai penyaliban dan telah berhasil memisahkan kebenaran dari legenda.

Kebangkitan atau Kesadaran dari Pingsan?

Gagasan bahwa Yesus tidak pernah sungguh-sungguh mati di kayu salib dapat ditemukan di Al-Quran, yang ditulis pada abad ke-7 ­- umat Islam Ahmadiyah berpendapat bahwa Yesus sebenarnya melarikan diri ke India. Sampai hari ini, ada sebuah tempat keramat yang diduga menjadi kuburan Yesus yang sesungguhnya di Srinagar, Kashmir.

Ketika abad ke-19 menyingsing, Karl Bahrdt, Karl Venturini, dan yang lainnya berusaha menjelaskan peristiwa kebangkitan, dengan memberi kesan bahwa Yesus hanya jatuh pingsan dari kelelahan di kayu salib, atau Dia telah diberi minuman yang membuat-Nya terlihat mati dan kemudian Dia dibangkitkan oleh udara dingin yang lembab di dalam kubur.

Para ahli teori konspirasi mendukung hipotesis ini, dengan menunjukkan bahwa Yesus telah diberi minuman dengan sebatang buluh ketika di atas salib (Markus 15:36), dan Pilatus terkejut dengan cepatnya Yesus mati (Markus 15:44). Maka dari itu, mereka berkata, kemunculan ulang Yesus bukanlah sebuah kebangkitan yang ajaib, namun hanya kembali sadar secara kebetulan dan kubur-Nya kosong karena Dia terus hidup.

Sementara para ahli terkemuka tidak mengakui teori yang diberi sebutan teori jatuh pingsan, namun teori ini berulang kali muncul dalam literatur populer. Pada tahun 1929, D.H. Lawrence merangkai tema ini ke dalam cerita pendek, di mana beliau memberi kesan bahwa Yesus melarikan diri ke Mesir dan Ia jatuh cinta dengan pendeta wanita Isis.

Pada tahun 1965, dalam bukunya "The Passover Plot", Hugh Schonfield mengatakan bahwa hanya tikaman pada Yesus yang tidak terhindarkan oleh tentara Romawi saja yang menggagalkan skema rumit untuk lolos dari salib hidup-hidup, meskipun Schonfield mengakui, "Kami tidak membuat pengakuan di mana pun ... bahwa [buku] menuliskan apa yang sebenarnya terjadi."

Hipotesis jatuh pingsan muncul kembali pada tahun 1972, melalui buku "The Jesus Scroll" karangan Donovan Joyce tahun 1972. Menurut ahli kebangkitan Gray Habermas, buku ini berisi rangkaian kemungkinan yang lebih tidak masuk akal daripada milik Schonfield. Pada tahun 1982, "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" menambahkan corak bahwa Pontius Pilatus telah menyuap untuk membiarkan Yesus diturunkan dari kayu salib sebelum Dia mati. Meskipun demikian, para penulis mengakui, "Kami tidak bisa - dan masih tidak bisa ­- membuktikan keakuratan kesimpulan kami."

Pada tahun 1992, Barbara Thiering -- sarjana dari Australia, membuat kegemparan dengan membangkitkan teori jatuh pingsan. Bukunya "Jesus and the Riddle of the Dead Sea Scroll", diperkenalkan dengan terlalu berlebihan oleh penerbit yang terhormat di Amerika Serikat. Tetapi teorinya kemudian ditolak dan direndahkan oleh Luke Timothy Johnson, seorang ahli dari Emory University, karena dianggap omong kosong belaka, hasil imajinasi yang memuncak, dan bukan merupakan analisis yang cermat.

Hari ini, teori jatuh pingsan terus berkembang. Saya mendengarnya sepanjang waktu. Namun, apakah buktinya sungguh-sungguh ada? Apa yang sesungguhnya terjadi saat Penyaliban? Apa yang menjadi penyebab kematian Yesus? Apakah ada kemungkinan Dia bisa selamat dari siksaan ini? Itu merupakan macam-macam pertanyaan yang saya harap dapat diselesaikan melalui bukti-bukti medis. Maka saya terbang ke California Selatan dan mengunjungi seorang dokter ternama, yang telah mempelajari secara mendalam data sejarah, arkeologis, dan medis mengenai kematian Yesus dari Nazaret ­- walaupun tampaknya berkenaan dengan hilangnya jenazah Yesus secara misterius, tidak pernah dilakukan autopsi terhadap-Nya.

Wawancara dengan Alexander Metherell, M.D., Ph.D.

Tempat yang mewah terasa sangat tidak cocok dengan topik yang sedang kami bicarakan. Di sanalah kami duduk di ruang tamu Dr. Metherell yang nyaman, di sore hari musim semi yang menyenangkan. Angin laut yang hangat berbisik melalui jendela, selagi kami berbicara mengenai topik tentang kebrutalan yang tidak terbayangkan: pemukulan yang begitu biadab, sehingga mengguncang kesadaran dan bentuk hukuman mati yang begitu kejam, sehingga menjadi kesaksian tentang kebiadaban manusia kepada manusia lainnya.

Saya mencari Metherell karena saya mendengar beliau memiliki keahlian medis dan ilmiah untuk menjelaskan tentang peristiwa penyaliban. Namun, saya juga memunyai motivasi lain: saya diberi tahu bahwa beliau dapat membicarakan topik tersebut dengan tenang dan akurat. Hal itu penting bagi saya karena saya ingin fakta-fakta berbicara untuk diri mereka sendiri, tanpa hiperbola, atau bahasa yang dipaksakan yang mungkin dapat memanipulasi emosi.

Seperti yang Anda harapkan dari seseorang dengan gelar medis (University of Miami di Florida) dan gelar doktor dalam bidang teknik (University of Bristol di Inggris), Metherell berbicara dengan ketelitian ilmiah. Beliau memiliki sertifikat dalam bidang diagnosis yang dikeluarkan oleh American Board of Radiology, dan telah menjadi konsultan bagi National Heart, Lung, dan Blood Institute di National Institutes of Health of Bethesda, Maryland.

Apa pun yang sedang terjadi di bawah permukaan itu, apa pun kepedihan yang dirasakannya sebagai seorang Kristen ketika berbicara tentang nasib yang mengerikan yang menimpa Yesus, beliau mampu menutupinya dengan profesionalisme yang lahir dari puluhan tahun penelitian di laboratorium. Beliau hanya memberi saya fakta-fakta ­- dan bagaimanapun juga hanya itulah yang saya kejar.

Penyiksaan Sebelum Salib

Awalnya, saya ingin memperoleh dari Metherell penggambaran dasar dari peristiwa-peristiwa menuju kematian Yesus. Jadi setelah percakapan sosial, saya meletakkan es teh saya dan mengatur cara duduk saya sedemikian rupa, sehingga saya menghadap tepat ke arah beliau. "Bisakah Anda memberikan gambaran tentang apa yang terjadi pada Yesus?" tanya saya.

Dia berdehem. "Peristiwa itu dimulai setelah Perjamuan Malam Terakhir, katanya. Yesus pergi bersama murid-murid-Nya ke Bukit Zaitun -­ tepatnya ke Taman Getsemani dan di sana Dia berdoa sepanjang malam. Selama proses itu, Yesus menantikan peristiwa yang akan terjadi di hari berikutnya. Karena Dia tahu besarnya penderitaan yang harus ditanggung-Nya, sudah sewajarnya Ia mengalami tekanan psikologis yang sangat berat."

Saya mengangkat tangan saya untuk menghentikan beliau. "Whoa -­ di sinilah orang-orang skeptis memiliki waktu untuk bersenang-senang, kata saya kepadanya. Injil memberi tahu kita, Dia mulai berkeringat darah pada saat ini. Sekarang, bukankah hal itu hanya hasil dari beberapa imajinasi yang berlebihan? Bukankah hal itu menimbulkan pertanyaan tentang keakuratan para penulis Injil?"

Tanpa terganggu, Metherell menggelengkan kepala. "Tidak sama sekali, jawab beliau. Ini merupakan kondisi medis yang disebut 'hematidrosis'. Kondisi ini tidak terlalu umum, namun kondisi seperti ini memiliki hubungan dengan tingkat tekanan psikologis yang tinggi. Yang terjadi adalah ketakutan hebat, yang menyebabkan terlepasnya unsur kimiawi yang memecahkan kapiler [pembuluh darah halus, Red.] di kelenjar keringat. Akibatnya terjadi pendarahan di kelenjar tersebut, sehingga keringat yang keluar berwarna darah. Kita tidak sedang berbicara tentang banyak darah; hanya jumlah yang sangat, sangat sedikit."

Meskipun sedikit tertegur, saya terus menekan. "Apakah ini memiliki efek lain pada tubuh?"

"Kondisi ini membuat kulit menjadi sangat rapuh, sehingga ketika Yesus dicambuk oleh tentara Romawi keesokan harinya, kulit-Nya akan menjadi sangat, sangat sensitif." Baiklah, mari kita mulai. Saya mempersiapkan diri akan gambaran-gambaran mengerikan yang saya tahu akan memenuhi pikiran saya. Sebagai seorang jurnalis, saya telah melihat banyak jenazah -­ korban dari kecelakaan mobil, kebakaran, dan pembalasan sindikat kejahatan -­ namun, ada sesuatu yang menimbulkan ketakutan khusus ketika mendengar tentang seseorang yang diperlakukan secara keji dengan sengaja oleh para algojo untuk menimbulkan penderitaan yang paling menyakitkan.

"Ceritakan kepada saya, seperti apa pencambukan itu?" Mata Metherell terus menatap saya.

"Hukuman cambuk Romawi terkenal karena kebrutalannya yang amat sangat. Hukuman itu biasanya terdiri dari tiga puluh sembilan cambukan, namun seringnya jauh lebih banyak daripada itu, tergantung dari suasana hati tentara yang melakukan hukuman tersebut. Tentara itu akan menggunakan sebuah cambuk terbuat dari tali kulit yang dikepang dengan bola-bola logam yang diselipkan di dalam anyaman tali itu. Ketika cambuk itu menyambar tubuh si terhukum, bola-bola ini akan menyebabkan luka-luka memar yang dalam dan luka-luka itu akan hancur dengan pukulan-pukulan yang selanjutnya. Pada cambuk itu juga terdapat serpihan-serpihan tulang yang tajam, yang akan mencabik daging dengan parah. Punggung si terhukum juga akan terparut sedemikian rupa, sehingga bagian dari tulang belakang kadang-kadang dapat terlihat akibat luka yang sangat dalam. Pencambukan dilakukan mulai dari bahu turun ke punggung, pantat, dan bagian belakang kaki. Sungguh mengerikan."

Metherell berhenti. "Lanjutkan, kata saya."

"Seorang dokter yang pernah mempelajari cambukan Romawi berkata, 'Sementara cambukan itu berlangsung, tiap cabikan yang diakibatkan oleh cambuk itu akan mengoyak sampai ke otot rangka yang ada di bawah kulit, sehingga menghasilkan garis-garis daging yang berdarah.' Sejarawan abad ke-3, Eusebius menggambarkan pencambukan ini dengan mengatakan, 'Pembuluh darah korban pencambukan akan terbuka dan otot, urat dagingnya, serta isi perut korban dapat terlihat.' Kita tahu banyak orang akan mati karena pukulan jenis ini, bahkan sebelum mereka disalibkan. Sedikitnya, korban akan mengalami kesakitan yang amat hebat dan mengalami syok 'hypovolemic'."

Metherell mengajukan sebuah istilah medis yang saya tidak pahami. "Apa artinya guncangan 'hypovolemic?'" saya bertanya.

"'Hypo' artinya rendah, 'vol' mengacu pada volume, dan 'emic' berarti darah. Jadi, syok 'hypovolemic' artinya orang itu sedang menderita efek dari hilangnya darah dalam jumlah yang banyak. Hal ini menyebabkan empat hal. Pertama, jantung berdebar kencang untuk memompa darah yang tidak ada di situ; kedua tekanan darah menurun, menyebabkan ketidaksadaran atau pingsan; ketiga, ginjal berhenti memproduksi urin untuk mempertahankan volume yang tersisa; dan keempat, orang itu menjadi sangat haus karena tubuh sangat membutuhkan cairan untuk menggantikan volume darah yang hilang."

"Apakah Anda melihat bukti ini dalam catatan Injil?"

"Ya, tentu saja," jawab beliau. Yesus sedang dalam syok "hypovolemic" pada waktu Dia berjalan terhuyung-huyung ke tempat hukuman mati di Kalvari, sambil memikul balok horisontal dari salib-Nya. Akhirnya, Yesus roboh dan tentara Romawi menyuruh Simon untuk memanggul salib-Nya. Nantinya kita membaca bahwa Yesus berkata, "Aku haus," di titik di mana seisapan anggur asam ditawarkan kepada-Nya. Karena efek mengerikan dari cambukan ini, tidak dipertanyakan lagi bahwa Yesus sudah dalam kondisi serius menuju kritis, bahkan sebelum paku ditancapkan menembus tangan dan kaki-Nya.

Penderitaan yang Sangat Menyakitkan di Salib

Sama pahitnya dengan peristiwa pencambukan itu, saya tahu bahwa akan ada kesaksian yang lebih membuat saya mual lagi yang akan diberikan. Hal itu karena sejarawan bersepakat bahwa Yesus selamat dari cambukan hari itu dan naik ke kayu salib -- di mana masalah yang sebenarnya terjadi. Zaman ini, ketika penjahat yang dihukum mati diikat dan disuntik dengan racun, atau terkunci di kursi kayu dan disetrum dengan gelombang listrik, situasi-situasinya sangat terkendali. Kematian datang dengan cepat dan dapat diprediksi. Penyidik medis dengan cermat mengesahkan meninggalnya korban. Dari dekat, para saksi memeriksa dengan cermat segala sesuatunya dari awal hingga akhir. Namun, betapa pastinya kematian melalui bentuk eksekusi yang kira-kira, perlahan, dan agak tidak pasti yang disebut penyaliban ini? Sesungguhnya, kebanyakan orang tidak yakin bagaimana salib membunuh para korbannya. Tanpa penyidik medis yang terlatih untuk bukti resmi bahwa Yesus telah mati, mungkinkah Dia lolos dari pengalaman brutal dan berdarah namun tetap hidup?

Saya mulai membongkar masalah ini. "Apa yang terjadi ketika Dia tiba di tempat penyaliban?" saya bertanya.

"Dia mungkin terbaring dan tangan-tangan-Nya telah dipakukan dengan posisi terlentang di balok horisontal. Kayu lintang pada salib disebut 'patibulum' dan di tahap ini kayunya terpisah dari balok vertikal, yang secara permanen tertancap di tanah."

Saya kesulitan membayangkan ini; saya memerlukan rincian yang lebih. "Dipaku dengan apa?" saya bertanya. "Dipaku di mana?"

"Orang-orang Romawi menggunakan paku-paku yang panjangnya 5 sampai 7 inci dan meruncing ke ujung yang tajam. Paku-paku itu ditancapkan ke pergelangan," kata Metherell, menunjukkan sekitar satu inci di bawah telapak tangan beliau.

Jadi paku-paku menembus pergelangan, meskipun ini dianggap bagian dari tangan dalam bahasa zaman itu. Penting untuk memahami bahwa pakunya akan menembus tempat di mana jalur saraf median berada. Let me introduce myself. My name is Richard Nata. I am an author, novelist, blogger and ghost writer. My articles, including short stories have been published in magazines and newspapers since 1994. I have written a lot of books, both fiction and non-fiction. So I was a professional in the field of writing, both fiction and non-fiction.

I was born in Jakarta, August 17, 1968.  

In 1988, at the age of 20 years, I started working as an accounting staff. Age 24 years has occupied the position of Finance Manager. Age 26 years as a General Manager.

In 1994, my articles published in magazines and tabloids.

In 2015, I had the idea of a startup company where the readers can decide for themselves the next story. WASN'T THIS A GREAT IDEA? IF can be realized WILL BE WORTH billions USD. Because CAN PRODUCE FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS even tens of millions USD annually.

I, as the author is planning to make tens of thousands of articles with millions of choices in it. With tens of thousands of articles then you like to see a show of your favorite series on TV for several years. The difference is while watching your favorite TV series, then you can not change the story. Meanwhile, if you read this story then you can alter the way the story according to your own choice.

If I do not get funding from investors then my story would still spread throughout the world. But with a longer time, Slow but sure.
