Kieu Hoang melebarkan usaha ke Cina sebagai pangsa pasar potensial. 

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, CALIFORNIA - Setiap krisis menawarkan kesempatan". Begitulah kata pepatah, tetapi ungkapan tersebut benar-benar menjadi kenyataan bagi seorang pengungsi Perang Vietnam, Kieu Hoang.

Ia saya temui selama liputan di California, Amerika Serikat dalam rangka peringatan ke-40 Perang Vietnam baru-baru ini.

“Keluarga saya tiba di Amerika Serikat beberapa hari sebelum Saigon jatuh ke tangan Vietnam Utara dan tujuan pertama kami di Amerika adalah Pangkalan Marinir Pendleton,” kata Hoang, pria kelahiran Vietnam yang kini telah menjadi warga negara Amerika.

"Wawancara untuk mencari pekerjaan dilakukan di kamp dan pekerjaan pertama saya adalah di perusahaan laboratorium untuk industri plasma," katanya.

Pada saat itu, lanjutnya, ia tidak mempunyai mobil dan hanya mengandalkan sepeda motor 50 cc untuk transportasi keluarga, termasuk untuk keperluan antar jemput kelima anaknya.

Pada 1980, Kieu Hoang mendirikan Rare Antibody Antigen Supply Inc., (RAAS), perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang plasma darah dan selanjutnya membeli sejumlah pusat-pusat plasma di Amerika Serikat.

"Menjelang tahun 1985, saya mempunyai 11 pusat plasma di AS dan untuk tahap pertama kami mengekspor banyak produk ke Jepang. Namun karena pelanggan-pelanggan Jepang tiba-tiba menghentikan impor, saya meninjau ulang proses bisnis ini dan memutuskan untuk berpindah ke Cina."

Di Cina ia mendirikan perusahaan patungan pada 1987. Ia memegang saham 50% di perusahaan patungan tersebut, meskipun padahal biasanya perusahaan asing hanya diperbolehkan memegang maksimum 49%.

"Saya jelaskan kepada mereka tentang pentingnya produk-produk darah, sesuatu yang perlu dikaji oleh Cina," tutur Hoang.

Kini lanjutnya, perusahaannya di Shanghai tercatat sebagai perusahaan farmasi terbesar kedua di Cina bila ditinjau dari nilai pasar.

"Kami mempunyai sekitar 400 karyawan dan kira-kira setengahnya sudah menjadi miliuner. Kami ingin sisanya segera menjadi miliuner!".( Hoang Nguyen BBC Vietnam, California)

A story with millions of choices in it.

Try to imagine this. When you're reading a story on the web or blog, you are given two choices. You can choose the next story based on your own choice. After selecting then you can continue reading the story. Shortly afterwards you will be presented back to the 2 other options. The next choice is up to you. Then you continue the story you are reading. After that you will be faced again with 2 choices. So onwards.

If you feel curious then you can re-read the story by changing your selection. Then you will see a different story with the story that you have read previously. The question now is why is this so? Because the storyline will be varying according to your choice. 

Based on the above, then you are faced with two choices. Are you interested in reading my story is? Or you are not interested at all. The choice is in your hands.
