The first thought was to write an explanatory post for your all, then thought 'Do I really need it?'

  1. I think the idea is too simplistic. For example, the whole purpose of writing is to be read, to take your thoughts and ideas and have them come to life in the mind of another. So, when a writer says "I write only for myself," he or she is wasting their time and effort, for what they are doing is an elaborate form of journal writing--they are not writing for a living. Two circles sitting one on top of the other, should be what makes a writer happy, for then he has taken his thoughts and transferred them perfectly to the mind of another.

  2. Well, as the context of the diagram above appears to be that of a writer seeking to make a living, I think it makes the point quite well. A professional writer writes what he/she wants, but also seeks to connect with readers so that he/she can continue paying his/her bills. Not everything a writer creates is going to be very marketable (I have a lot of stories and essays locked away that will never be seen by anyone but me), and not everything that is currently popular at the time will be what a writer wants to write. It's in that place where the two circles overlap that a writer gets the best of both. I believe that the scenario that Clayton describes- the two circles sitting one on top of the other- could be labelled Writer's Heaven; this is unlikely to happen in this life, although I'm sure some writers experience more of a Happy Writer's margin than others.

  3. Clayton/Jeff - Completely agree with you on the Heaven Zone. We do have writers who have created their own niche based on the responses from their readers. Also, some of the writers do timely research on finding out the subject/theme before they plan their next story.

As Jeff mentioned about the articles/stories locked away, I am hundreds of them too.

  4. You chart works well as far as it goes. However, you should add another -- or explain -- that your freeze-framing a dynamic process. Those circles change constantly. Writers often expand the circle of what people want by creating something new -- a hybrid, or new genre -- that readers didn't know they always wanted. Events, social, economic and technological developments change attitudes, tastes, etc, and spark new kinds of fiction (including fan fiction) all the time. Conversely, reader preferences shift and mix continually...The two circle theory provides a snapshot to stimulate our thinking about all this, not a formula.

My STARTUP :

A story with millions of choices in it.

Try to imagine this. When you're reading a story on the web or blog, you are given two choices. You can choose the next story based on your own choice. After selecting then you can continue reading the story. Shortly afterwards you will be presented back to the 2 other options. The next choice is up to you. Then you continue the story you are reading. After that you will be faced again with 2 choices. So onwards.

If you feel curious then you can re-read the story by changing your selection. Then you will see a different story with the story that you have read previously. The question now is why is this so? Because the storyline will be varying according to your choice.

Based on the above, then you are faced with two choices. Are you interested in reading my story is? Or you are not interested at all. The choice is in your hands.
If you are interested then spread widely disseminated this article to your family, friends, neighbors, and relatives. You can also distribute it on facebook, twitter, goggle +, or other social media that this article be viral in the world. By doing so it is a new entertainment industry has been created.

Its creator named Richard Nata.
