Boost Your Blog Traffic With These 7 Quick WordPress SEO Tips

Share on Google+Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on LinkedIn
WordPress is good for search engine optimization (SEO): It’s fast and well-structured, and has the capabilities for your content to rank highly in searches.
But if you don’t take advantage of all the available options, you won’t get the benefits.
SEO can get complicated fast, but don’t worry:You don’t need to be an SEO expert to boost your search engine traffic. You can get a noticeable boost in traffic just by learning these basic WordPress SEO tips.
Best of all, using these techniques takes less than 5 minutes to optimize each post.
Ready to boost your blog traffic? Let’s get started.

Rank High With These WordPress SEO Tips

1. Set Your WordPress Permalinks

Check out your latest blog post. If the URL (web address) looks something likehttp://example.com/&p=135, that’s not helping your SEO at all.
WordPress allows you to easily set up custom permalinks: permanent URLs that point to individual posts.
To set your permalinks, go to your Dashboard menu and click on Settings > Permalinks.
You should only use dates in your permalinks if your posts are quickly outdated (e.g., for a news website). If your content is mostly evergreen, don’t bother with dates.
Most websites benefit SEO-wise from using either just the post name, e.g.http://www.kerilynnengel.com/sample-post/, or the category + post name:http://www.kerilynnengel.com/category/sample-post/.
Which structure you choose is up to you. Just keep in mind that changing it down the road could result in a lot of broken links.

2. Choose a Keyword Phrase to Target

Before you write each post, take a minute to do some keyword research using a tool likeGoogle Keyword Planner.
Choose a keyword phrase before you write, because you may find that the best keywords available have a slightly different focus than your original idea. It’s better to find that out now than rewrite a blog post to match a keyword, or find out that no one’s searching for what you’re writing.
The best keyword phrases are those that have high traffic and low competition. Try filtering your Google Keyword Planner search to only include low- or medium-competition keywords.
Choose just one relevant keyword phrase to target per blog post.

3. Craft a Title Using Your Keyword

This one’s easy: Just make sure to use your chosen keyword in your post title.
If your keyword phrase is awkward or ungrammatical, try breaking it up with small words (“and,” “by,” “at”) or punctuation. For the keyword “best pizza new haven,” your title could be “Discover the Best Pizza in New Haven,” or “Who Has the Best Pizza? New Haven.”

4. Use Your Keyword As the Post Permalink

Permalinks again! For each post, there’s a field to customize your permalink under the title field.
Try just using your keyword phrase. For our example above (“Discover the Best Pizza in New Haven”), I’d use http://example.com/best-pizza-new-haven.

5. Break Up Your Post With Subheadings

Subheadings are great for two reasons:
  1. They break up content, making it easier for readers to scan, and
  2. They give search engines more info on what your content is about.
If it makes sense to, try using your keyword again in a subheading. If it sounds too forced, use related terms instead, or break up your keyword into multiple headings.
For our “best pizza new haven” blog post, you could have subheadings like “Winner of 5 Best Pizza Awards,” “New Haven’s Long Pizza History,” or “Best Pizza in Connecticut.”
(Suddenly getting hungry for pizza…)

6. Use Your Keyword In the Post Body

Besides your title and subheadings, use your keyword naturally in the body of the post.
Make sure to keep it sounding natural—you’re writing for readers, not just search engines. If it sounds awkward, try using synonyms or related terms instead.
Use bolds to emphasize important phrases and sentences that are related to your keyword if possible. Bolds make your post more scannable for readers, and tell search engines which parts of your content are the most important.

7. Optimize Your Images

Google isn’t quite smart enough yet to know exactly what your image depicts without you telling it, so let’s use that to our advantage!
There are a few ways you can tell Google what your image is and boost your SEO:
  • Use your keyword as your file name (e.g. best-pizza-new-haven.jpg).
  • Use captions to describe the image using your keyword or variations of it.
  • Use your keyword in the image tag Title and ALT attributes.*
*Warning: Be careful with this tip: Keep in mind that the purpose of the ALT attribute is to describe images for those who can’t see them, such as visually-impaired readers using screen readers. Let’s keep the web accessible to everyone by using ALT attribute as it was intended. For example, continuing to use our pizza example, we could show a logo of a restaurant with the ALT attribute: “Logo of Sally’s Pizza, voted best pizza in New Haven.” This describes the image while also using our keyword.

A story with millions of choices in it.

Try to imagine this. When you're reading a story on the web or blog, you are given two choices. You can choose the next story based on your own choice. After selecting then you can continue reading the story. Shortly afterwards you will be presented back to the 2 other options. The next choice is up to you. Then you continue the story you are reading. After that you will be faced again with 2 choices. So onwards.

If you feel curious then you can re-read the story by changing your selection. Then you will see a different story with the story that you have read previously. The question now is why is this so? Because the storyline will be varying according to your choice.

Based on the above, then you are faced with two choices. Are you interested in reading my story is? Or you are not interested at all. The choice is in your hands.
If you are interested then spread widely disseminated this article to your family, friends, neighbors, and relatives. You can also distribute it on facebook, twitter, goggle +, or other social media that this article be viral in the world. By doing so it is a new entertainment industry has been created.
