5 Powerful CRM Retargeting Ideas You Should Steal

in ADVERTISING MARKETING AUTOMATION SOCIAL  3081 views  Flag
You heard it here first. CRM Retargeting will be the next big thing among performance marketers.
Ok … maybe you didn’t hear it here first. But that doesn’t make it any less true. Want to know why?
Did you know you could extend your email campaign reach by 77% if you coordinate Facebook Newsfeed ads and email campaigns? Pretty compelling, right?
But, by definition, this means you are showing an ad to someone who has already opted in to your list.
Wait … what?

The Chinese Wall of Facebook Advertising

When it comes to using Facebook ads, if you are like most people, you probably have a wall between lead generation and the rest of your funnel as impenetrable as The Great Wall of China.
The conventional wisdom is ads are for lead generation. The objective is to get someone to the point you have permission to contact them and then you start bombarding them with emails.
Some percentage convert. Some percentage unsubscribe. And the rest probably just sit there.

SWSWSWSW

Some will, some won’t, so what? Someone (else) is waiting. Right?
If this is your approach, you are leaving a massive amount of opportunity (and profit) on the table.
If you only use a single medium at a time (e.g. first paid ads to generate leads and then email to convert them):
  • you are missing out on the potential for 77% higher email campaign reach
  • you are burning out your email list
  • you have no way to plug 'leaky buckets'
In our experience, using CRM Retargeting to create multi-channel funnels showing specific, coordinating ads speaking directly to where the person is in their customer journey can 4X profit, as compared to traditional funnels that use one medium at a time.

What is CRM Retargeting?

The key to making this work is CRM Retargeting … also known as Email Retargeting. And not JUST CRM Retargeting … automated CRM Retargeting.
So what is CRM Retargeting? It is targeting your ads using the data in your CRM or email marketing system, to show specific ads to a very specific group of people that Facebook (or Google) wouldn’t have been able to target otherwise.

What’s new and different about CRM Retargeting?

Facebook has given advertisers, like you and I, the ability to target specific segmented lists of users for donkey’s years. These specific lists are known, in Facebook parlance, as Custom Audiences. (Check out this post on our blog for a complete Guide to Facebook Custom Audiences)
One method of creating Custom Audiences, which is quite easy and useful, are Website Custom Audiences. These use a Facebook tracking pixel to keep track of visitors to your web properties.
Once a visitor is tagged, you can use various filtering criteria - visited pages on your site with certain words in the URL or visited this page but not this page - to create lists of Facebook users who meet those criteria. Once created, those Custom Audiences can be included and excluded in your ad targeting to get very, very specific about who you put an ad in front of.
The other way, which up until now has been very clunky and not so useful (and therefore underused) is what Facebook calls Customer List Audiences. While having tremendous potential, the problem with Customer List Audiences is that you had to upload them to Facebook from CSV files. Ugh!

Can you say time-consuming way to create instantly stale data?

But now there is software (full disclosure: including mine) that automatically update your Customer List Audiences as people are added and removed from the source list in your CRM or email service.
Suddenly, you are able to create true, automated multi-channel funnels that include both Facebook and email, without breaking a sweat.
That opens up a whole world of possibilities. Basically, the uses for Facebook ads are now limited only by your imagination. Anything you could or would do with an email (and more), you can do with a Facebook ad too!
Facebook accepts both email and phone numbers to try to match contacts in your list with Facebook users. The match rate will vary depending on a lot of factors. It can be anywhere from 30% - 90%.
How much data you have available to match on in your CRM, how much of that data the software sends over to Facebook for matching, whether the contact came through a native Facebook lead ad and whether your list is B2B or B2C will all affect the percentage.
While it is true not everyone on your list will see the ad, depending on the match rate, it is also true some are better than none. For most lists not gathered using a Facebook Lead Ad, 40% - 60% is pretty standard. Of course, Lead Ads will have a 100% match rate, which is one of the advantages of using them.
So, with that as background, here are ...

5 Powerful CRM Retargeting Ideas You Should Steal

1. Retarget based on segmentation data

Your database is a treasure trove of segmentation data. Or, at least, it should be.
Use that data in your CRM to show different ad creative to different contacts based on their responses to interest questions on a form or survey, buyer persona or customer status.
For example, at Sync2CRM, we have four buyer personas: small business owners, Internet entrepreneurs, marketing professionals in SMBs, and small agency owners who are spending $1000 or more on Facebook ads.
As people make their way through our funnel, in a phone call or on a form, they hopefully get asked which of these four personas they fit into and are tagged in our system. In our case, that is Infusionsoft.
From that point forward, we can create four different versions of each retargeting ad that speaks directly to that persona ... what their issues are, and where specifically they are in our funnel.
Which do you think is going to convert better? The ad that seems as if I am talking specifically to you? Or the generic ad?
(For more on this, check out this episode from the Perpetual Traffic podcast on using an ad grid)

2. Retarget based on funnel stage

The usefulness of Facebook ads goes so far beyond just lead generation. And if you are only using ads to retarget website visitors who haven’t opted in to your list yet, you are playing small ball!
Hopefully, you have mapped out your customer journey and created the corresponding marketing funnel. If you are using marketing automation to drive your funnel, then you almost certainly have tags and lists in your database that mark the current location of a contact in your funnel and trigger movement to the next stage.
Again I say … if you are not doing this …we need to have a talk!
Assuming you do have the data to differentiate who is in which stage, you can use that data to show different ads to only the people in that stage. The goal, of course, is to move them to the next one.
Let’s take, for example, someone who is in the free trial period for Sync2CRM. We offer a 30 day free trial. And while we will certainly email them during this period to encourage conversion to a paid subscription, we would also show them ads.
Why would we do that? Remember that someone who sees both an ad and email is 70% more likely to convert than someone who has only seen an email.
So, if you are using something like MailChimp or Active Campaign that are more list driven, you would set up a list specifically for your trialing subscribers. If you use a system like Infusionsoft, which relies heavily on tags, you would create the Custom Audience from your funnel tags or a Saved Search using data in a Status field for example.
In any case, you might use targeting that looks something like this:
As for ad creative, this is a perfect place to show off those testimonials. So, here is example creative from one of our testimonial ads.

Augmenting your email campaigns with a coordinated Facebook Funnel ad campaign is awesome. But honestly, it is the low hanging fruit. Here is where it gets really, really powerful … and profitable!

3. Retarget ‘leaky buckets’

Every sales and marketing funnel has leaky buckets. If you imagine a cold prospect entering the top of your funnel and, at each step, doing exactly what you want them to do, without delay ... that is a perfect, closed funnel.
But that almost never happens, right?
At each step along the way, valuable contacts get left behind. Using the data from your CRM about where each prospect is in the funnel, you can use Facebook retargeting to shore up all those leaky buckets.
And, trust me … once you start to look for them, they are EVERYWHERE!
For example, in addition to emails, we show ads to everyone who did not attend our webinar to get them to re-register or watch a replay. The advantage of ads is that you can continue showing them, even after your email sequences are complete, without burning out your email list.
And speaking of email lists, why not target contacts who have stopped opening your emails to re-activate them? That’s another leaky bucket. You might encourage them to follow you on social media instead.
Another example would be people who filled out a lead form but didn’t return your calls. You get the idea? All leaky buckets. Find them and use Facebook ads to reclaim some of that lost profit.
Here is an example of the targeting we use for webinar no-shows. We use the ‘New Attendee’ trigger in Zapier to mark everyone who attended our webinars. By definition then, we also know who did not attend.
By including the ‘Registered for Webinar’ Custom Audience and excluding the ‘Attended Webinar’ Custom Audience, we can show an ad specifically to non-attendees encouraging them to register for the encore webinar the following day.

Here is an ad we show to people who have registered for the webinar to encourage attendance:

This ad is only shown to people who have registered. And because of the way we set it up, so no one will click on it, it costs us nothing. (Hat tip to Scott Oldford for the idea)
And just a note, because this data is synced automatically from our database, we can set all these Custom Audiences and ads up in advance. These ads are all set up at the same time the webinar and email automation is set up. It’s just part of the funnel.
The ads will just sit there … doing nothing ... until people start registering and attending. As they are automatically added or removed to/from the Custom Audiences, they automatically start showing to people based on the targeting we set up in advance.
Of course, like any campaign, as you get your funnel dialed in - emails, automation, custom audiences, ads, targeting, etc - you get to a point where you can just replicate over and over again.
So like with any campaign, it is a lot of work up front. But so worth the effort … In our experience, we can 4X the profit on every campaign by plugging all the leaky buckets in this way.

4. Retarget to create awareness and positive impressions

Earlier, in the Funnel Retargeting section, we talked about using testimonial ads to create a good impression and encourage conversion. We can do something similar to warm someone up before we reach out.
For example, let’s say you are buying lists and will follow up either via email or an outbound sales team. How much better might that conversation go if you targeted that list with a campaign showing them your very best content?
You could just let each new batch of leads see those ads for awhile and then start calling. That would be OK. But here is an even more powerful strategy ...
If you have a system that tracks visitors to your website, how crazy effective do you think it would be to show them an ad linking to a blog post. Then, the minute someone clicks through one of those ads, they are tagged in your CRM and the salesperson notified to give them a call?
If this was a cold list, you probably wouldn’t want to call right away or it would be creepy. With warm lists it can just be a coincidence. So timing is important.
But imagine how that call might go …
“Hi. My name is Kim Snider. I am the Founder of Sync2CRM."
“Wow! That is so amazing. I was just reading one of your blog posts!"
“Really? That is so amazing! What did you think of it?”
Of course, there are lots of variations on this idea of using your content or testimonials to warm someone up. Perhaps you are doing an influencer outreach campaign so you retarget influencers to increase awareness without being annoying.
Or maybe you are up for an industry award. So you target the judges. Is that too under-handed? Up to you to decide. But you get the idea, right?

5. Retarget to re-engage

The last killer tactic is to use retargeting to get someone to re-engage. This is similar to a leaky bucket. Except that they were originally in your bucket. But now they are just lying in the bottom of it … dead and lifeless.
Examples here would be users who have cancelled their subscription or membership, stopped opening your emails, aren’t using your app, etc. The fact that you need to re-engage them means they probably aren’t reachable by email. So this is a perfect job for Facebook ads.
So, let’s take a campaign to try to revive cancelled subscriptions. Of course I am going to try to email them with subject lines like “We want you back”, etc. But here is what the ad campaign might look like ...
When someone cancels a subscription with Sync2CRM, we put them in a new list or sequence called ‘Cancelled - Awaiting Resuscitation’. Then we have a delay timer set to wait some period of time … let’s say 120 days.
At the end of 120 days, they drop into a new list or sequence called 'Subscriber Re-Engage campaign’ or something similar. That tag or list is tied to a evergreen ad campaign that begins showing them ads.
Your ad creative might say something like … “We Miss You” or “A Lot Has Changed At Sync2CRM” or “Still Need Help with Automating Facebook Funnels?”. It might also offer a discount for re-subscribing.
Your targeting would simply use the corresponding Custom Audience to that list or tag and exclude any current users so that, if you are successful and they re-subscribe, you immediately stop showing them that ad.

And again, the important point here is these are not one off campaigns. These are evergreen Facebook ad campaigns that show ads automatically as people move into and out of Custom Audiences based on your CRM data.
Once you build them, you only have to come back and refresh periodically, in the same way you do your web copy, landing pages and emails. It’s just another part of the funnel.
Comparing this approach to uploading and downloading CSV files is like comparing Mt. Vesuvius to your kid’s science project!
If all you do is just automate the moving of contacts between Customer List Audiences so you can use them, as needed, in your ad campaigns ... that is, on its own, a great benefit. You will save time not having to upload and download files, your data will always be fresh and you can target on data not available anywhere else except your CRM.
You will still get higher conversions because your ad will be more relevant to the person you show it to. You will also get lower ad cost because Facebook rewards relevance. You can slow down on those emails, so you don’t get list fatigue. And, although unmeasurable, every person who sees your ad, has more brand awareness, whether they click or not.
And, let's be honest ... that is all most people are going to do. Finding the time to build all this out is a real issue for all of us. (For more on this, see my 7 Step Process for building out these campaigns)

But if you want to 4X your profit …

Years ago, I had a coach pound on me about what he called the Law of Marginal Return.
"Think of it like this," he said. "What is the difference in the paycheck collected by the professional golfer who wins the tournament compared to the paycheck for the guy who takes second? How much does the winning horse at the racetrack pay compared to the horse that finished second? A lot right? And what was the margin of victory? A nose? An extra putt?"
The Law of Marginal Return says that the one little bit of extra effort or preparation that puts you over the top pays a huge dividend relative to the time or effort spent. I believe building automated, multi-channel funnels that include Facebook, email, SMS, offline, et al are capable of producing that out-sized return and catapulting Sync2CRM to the top of the heap.
Am I there yet? I’d be lying if I said I was. But I’ve got a good start on it and already the results are impressive.
So … what are you going to do?

Your Turn .. Let’s Discuss

Are you using Customer List Audiences for retargeting? Are you using them past the lead gen steps of your funnel? Would love to know what questions you have about CRM Retargeting and/or great examples/ideas that would help others ...

In 2015, I had the idea of a startup company where the readers can decide for themselves the next story. WASN'T THIS A GREAT IDEA? IF can be realized WILL BE WORTH billions USD. Because CAN PRODUCE FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS even tens of millions USD annually.

In theory, in 10-20 years into the future, my startup income, amounting to hundreds of million USD annually can be obtained easily. AND IF FOLLOWED BY MANY COMPANIES IN THE WHOLE WORLD WILL THEN BE A NEW INDUSTRIAL worth trillions USD.

To be honest. Currently I'm not having a lot of money. So I start marketing my startup with blogspot.

My STARTUP :

A story with millions of choices in it - looking investor like you.

Try to imagine this. When you're reading a story on the web or blog, you are given two choices. You can choose the next story based on your own choice. After selecting then you can continue reading the story. Shortly afterwards you will be presented back to the 2 other options. The next choice is up to you. Then you continue the story you are reading. After that you will be faced again with 2 choices. So onwards. The more stories you read so the more options you have taken.

If you feel curious then you can re-read the story by changing your selection. Then you will see a different story with the story that you have read previously. The question now is why is this so? Because the storyline will be varying according to your choice.

I, as the author is planning to make tens of thousands of articles with millions of choices in it. With tens of thousands of articles then you like to see a show of your favorite series on TV for several years. The difference is while watching your favorite TV series, then you can not change the story. Meanwhile, if you read this story then you can alter the way the story according to your own choice.

You might say like this. Sounds like a book "choose your own adventure". Books I read when I was young.

Correctly. The idea is taken from there. But if you read through a book, the story is not so exciting. Due to the limited number of pages. When a child first you may already feel interesting. But if you re-read the book now then becomes no fun anymore because you don't get anything with the amount of 100-200 pages.

Have you ever heard of game books?  When you were boy or girl, did you like reading game books? I think you've heard even happy to read it.

Gamebooks are sometimes informally called choose your own adventure books or CYOA which is also the name of the Choose Your Own Adventure series published byBantam BooksGamebook - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gamebook - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A gamebook is a work of fiction that allows the reader to participate in the story by making effective choices. The narrative branches along various paths through the use of numbered paragraphs or pages.

Bantam Books with the Choose Your Own Adventure

series has produced more than 250 million US

dollars. While I offer you more powerful than the Choose

Your Own Adventure. Because of what? Because the

story that I made much more interesting than the stories

created by the authors of Bantam Books. You will not get anything just to 100-200 pages. While the story that I created is made up of tens of thousands of articles with millions of choices in it.

For comparison are the books published with the theme "choose your own adventure" produces more than 250 million copies worldwide. If the average price of a book for 5 USD, the industry has produced more than 1.5 billion USD. But unfortunately this industry has been abandoned because the reader begins to feel bored. The last book was published entitled "The Gorillas of Uganda (prev." Search for the Mountain Gorillas ")". And this book was published in 2013.

Based on the above, then you are faced with two choices. Are you interested in reading my story is? Or you are not interested at all. The choice is in your hands.
If you are interested then spread widely disseminated this article to your family, friends, neighbors, and relatives. You can also distribute it on facebook, twitter, goggle +, or other social media that this article be viral in the world. By doing so it is a new entertainment industry has been created.

Its creator named Richard Nata.

WHY DO I NEED STARTUP FUNDS FROM INVESTORS? I NEED A LOT OF FUNDS FROM INVESTORS BECAUSE I HAVE TO LOOKING FOR EXPERT PROGRAMMERS(IT).BECAUSE THE DATA IS HANDLED IS VERY LARGE, IT MAY HAVE TO WEAR SOME PROGRAMMERS(IT).

I CAN NOT WEAR SOME FREELANCE PROGRAMMER BECAUSE THE DATA MUST BE MONITORED CONTINUOUSLY FROM VIRUSES, MALWARE, SPAM, AND OTHERS.

IN ADDITION FUNDS FROM INVESTORS IS ALSO USED TO BUY SERVERS WITH VERY LARGE CAPACITY. FUNDS ARE ALSO USED TO PAY EMPLOYEE SALARIES AND OPERATIONAL COSTS OF THE COMPANY.

FUNDS CAN ALSO BE USED FOR ADVERTISING AND OTHER MARKETING STRATEGIES.FUNDS CAN ALSO BE USED TO ADVERTISE MY STARTUP AND OTHER MARKETING STRATEGIES.

IF I GET A VERY LARGE FUND, THE PART OF THE FUNDS USED TO TRANSLATE THE STORY INTO VARIOUS LANGUAGES.With more and more languages, the more readers we get.
WITH MORE AND MORE READERS, THE MORE REVENUE WE GET.

AS AN INVESTOR THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FEEL ANXIOUS ABOUT YOUR FUNDS. BECAUSE YOUR FUNDS WILL NEVER BE LOST BECAUSE IN 3-5 YEARS YOU HAVE RETURNED THE FUNDS COUPLED WITH PROFIT.
THIS BUSINESS IS ONE AND THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD.

If we can make a good story, so that the readers will

come again and again for further reading the story then

our earnings will continue to grow and will never

diminish. This is due to new readers who continued  to

arrive, while long remained loyal readers become our

customers.

So that the number of our readers will continue to

multiply over time. With the increasing number of loyal

readership then automatically the amount of income we

will also grow larger every year. The same thing

happened in yahoo, google, facebook, twitter, linkedin,

and others when they still startup.

Deuteronomy {28:13} And the LORD shall make thee the

head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and

thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do [them: ]

Try to imagine this. If I give a very unique story. It was the first time in the world. But the world already know this story even liked it. Because the world love the game books. While the story that I made is the development of game books.
Do you Believe if I dare say if I will succeed because my story will be famous all over the world as Harry Potter?
I believe it. Not because I was the author of the story, but because of the story that I made is unique and the only one in the world.
Income from my startup :
1. Ads. With millions of unique visitors, the price of the ads will be expensive.
2. Affiliate marketing. In addition to advertising, we are also able to put up some banner from affiliate marketing.
3. Contribution of the readers. If you have a million readers and every reader to pay one US dollar per year then you will get the income of one million US dollars per year.
If you have a million readers and every reader to pay one US dollar per month then you will get as much revenue twelve million US dollars per year.
4. Books and Comics. After getting hundreds of thousands to the millions of readers of the story will be made in books and the form of a picture story (comics).
5. Movies. If we have a good story with millions of readers then quickly we will be offered to make a film based on the story.
6. Merchandise related to characters. After the movies there will be made an offer for the sale of goods related to the characters.
7. Sales. With millions of email that we have collected from our readers so we can sell anything to them.
Each income (1-7) worth millions to tens of millions of US dollars.
Because each income (1-7) worth millions to tens of millions of US dollars. Then in 10-20 years into the future, AI will be earning hundreds of million USD annually.
So how long do you think my story that I made could gather a thousand readers? Ten thousand readers? One hundred thousand readers? A million readers? Five million readers? Ten million readers? More than ten million readers?
But to get all of it of course takes time, can not be instant. In addition, it takes hard work, big funds and placement of the right people in the right positions.
By advertising, viral marketing, strong marketing strategies and SEO then a million readers can be done in less than a year. Ten million readers can be done in two to three years.
This is the marketing strategy of my startup.
When hundreds of thousands or millions of readers already liked my story then they have to pay to enjoy the story that I made.
If you are a visionary then you will think like this.
With the help of my great name in the world of business, my expertise in marketing, advertising, marketing by mouth, viral marketing, then collecting a million readers to ten million readers will be easy to obtain. Is not that right?
The question now is what if people like my story as they like Harry Potter? You will get tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of email addresses from readers. With that much email, we can sell anything to the readers.
Since April 2013, Wikipedia has around 26 million articles in 285 languages are written by 39 million registered users and a variety of anonymous people who are not known from other parts of the world.  Web ranked by Alexa, Wikipedia is a famous website number 6 which has been visited by 12% of all Internet users with 80 million visitors every month and it is only from the calculation of America.

resource : http://www.tahupedia.com/content/show/136/Sejarah-dan-Asal-Mula-Wikipedia

If no Wikipedia then need hundreds of thousands to millions of books required to make 26 million articles in 285 languages into books.

With the Wikipedia then people started to leave to read a book or books to seek knowledge about a subject or many subjects.

The same thing will happen. Read a story in a book or books to be abandoned. Read a story with millions of choices on the web or blog is far more interesting than reading a book or books.

So what happens next? In 10-20 years ahead then read a story in a book to be abandoned. Otherwise my startup will grow and continue to develop into a new entertainment industry.

New entertainment industry, where I was a forerunner startup will continue to evolve.
Therefore, in 10-20 years into the future, my startup will be earning hundreds of million USD annually.

So do not delay. Invest your money immediately to my startup. Take A Look. There are so many advantages if you want to invest in my startup.
WHY YOU SHOULD INVEST YOUR MONEY RIGHT NOW? .
IF YOU INVEST YOUR FUNDS IN ONE, TWO OR THREE YEARS INTO THE FUTURE, YOU MAY BE TOO LATE.
BECAUSE IN 1-3 YEARS INTO THE FUTURE THEN I'VE GOT THE FUNDS. THE FUNDS CAN COME FROM SOME INVESTORS, LOANS FROM BANKS OR FROM ADVERTISEMENTS POSTED ON MY BLOG.

IF I'VE GOT A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUNDS THEN I'VE NO NEED OF YOUR FUNDS. SO INVEST NOW OR NOT AT ALL.

My BLOG started to be written January 11, 2015. TODAY, MAY 30, 2015, THE NUMBER OF CLICKS HAS REACHED 56,750. SO FAR SO GOOD.

If I get big funds from investors then with a quick story that I wrote will spread throughout the world.

So I got acceleration because I can put ads in a large variety of media such as Google AdWords, Facebook, and others. I also can perform a variety of other marketing strategies.
If I do not get funding from investors then my story would still spread throughout the world. But with a longer time, Slow but sure.

So either I get funding from investors or not, the story that I wrote will remain spread throughout the world. Ha ... 7x

So don't worry, be happy.

My advice to you is you should think whether the data that I have provided to you makes sense or not .
If my data reasonable then immediately invest your funds as soon as possible.

Then we discuss how we plan further cooperation.

Thank you.
Lord Jesus bless you.
Amen
P.S. The offer letter I gave also to the hedge funds and

venture capital and other major companies

in the entire

world. So who is fast then he will get it.

P.P.S. In addition, there is one more thing I

want to tell you. If a story can generate tens

of millions of US dollars, then what if made

many stories? Then why do not you make 2, 3 or many stories? You will get hundreds of million USD annually.
