TRIBUNLAMPUNG.CO.ID - Para ilmuwan telah lama mengetahui bahwa Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) menyerang CD4 sel T manusia, menurunkan kekebalan tubuh, memicu Acute Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Namun demikian, pola penyebaran virus itu masih teka-teki.

Berusaha memecahkan teka-teki itu, pakar HIV sekaligus keamanan jaringan University College London, Changwang Zhang, mengembangkan simulasi. Modelnya terinspirasi dari virus Conficker menginfeksi jaringan militer dan polisi Eropa pertama kali tahun 2008.

Hasil simulasi menunjukkan bahwa penyebaran HIV di dalam tubuh mirip dengan pola penyebaran Conficker. "Keduanya memakai mekanisme hibrida, bertahan dalam waktu lama, dan sulit dihilangkan," kata Zhang.

Untuk masuk ke sebuah jaringan, Conficker memilki dua jalur, yaitu antar komputer secara langsung dan lewat internet. HIV juga punya dua jalur, yaitu lewat darah dan langsung antar-sel.

"Model yang kami kembangkan menjelaskan ciri-ciri penting untuk memprediksi proses infeksi," kata Zhang seperti dikutip Daily Mail, Selasa (7/4/2015). Zhang menambahkan, model itu akan membantu memerangi dua virus komputer dan biologis itu.

Untuk mengonformasi pemodelan, Zhang meneliti 17 pasien HIV positif di London. Hasilnya, model penyebaran secara hibrida paling pas untuk menjelaskan kondisi pada pasien tersebut.

Terkait HIV, karena diketahui menyebar secara hibrida, maka penyebaran antar-sel secara langsung tak bisa diremehkan. Malah, pola penyebaran itulah yang kemungkinan berperan lebih besar mempercept perkembangan HIV ke AIDS.
