Snapchat sangat populer, sampai membuat penggunanya mengupload 350 juta foto tiap harinya

Selain berita IPO Twitter, bulan ini dunia teknologi juga dikejutkan dengan pemuda berusia 23 tahun yang menolak uang 40 Trilliun Rupiah yang ditawarkan oleh facebook dan Google. Evan Spiegel, pendiri Snapchat, menegaskan bahwa dia tidak tertarik dengan tawaran akuisisi dari facebook ataupun Google, setidaknya tidak sampai tahun depan. Meskipun tidak terlalu populer di Indonesia, Snapchat sangat populer di Negara lainnya, sampai membuat penggunanya mengupload 350 juta foto tiap harinya. Berbeda dengan aplikasi chatting atau photo-sharing biasa, semua yang di share di Snapchat hanya bertahan beberapa detik sebelum dihapus selamanya. Keunikan ini ternyata menarik perhatian jutaan orang dan menjadi pengguna setia Snapchat.

Perusahaan raksasa internet asal China, Tencent, adalah yang pertama kali memberikan valuasi 40 Trilliun Rupiah terhadap Snapchat. Tencent yang telah merajai aplikasi chat dunia tentunya ingin menguasai Snapchat yang menurut mereka akan menjadi sangat populer dan mampu melengkapi QQ (aplikasi chat paling populer di China), WeChat (populer di China dan Indonesia), serta KakaoTalk (populer di Korea dan Indonesia).

Awalnya, Tencent ingin membeli saham minoritas Snapchat senilai beberapa ratus juta dollar. Kemudian, facebook memberikan tawaran akuisisi total senilai 35 Trilliun Rupiah. Lagi-lagi, Evan Spiegel tidak tertarik. Terakhir, merasa Tencent adalah pesaing beratnya, Google pun ikut-ikutan melakukan penawaran akuisisi ke Snapchat, kali ini dengan nilai 40 Trilliun Rupiah. Namun, Evan menegaskan bahwa tidak ada akuisisi dalam tahun ini.

Para analis di dunia teknologi percaya bahwa ini adalah strategi Evan Spiegel untuk meningkatkan valuasi Snapchat. Evan sangat percaya bahwa akhir tahun ini Snapchat akan menaikkan jumlah foto yang di-share di Snapchat naik dari 350 juta foto per hari menjadi 400 juta foto per hari. Angka tersebut mengalahkan jumlah foto harian yang di-upload di facebook. Pastinya, apabila berhasil mendapatkan angka tersebut, valuasi Snapchat bukan hanya 40 trilliun rupiah, bisa naik menjadi 100 trilliun rupiah.
