Musim dingin tahun 1954,, Miao Zizhong diinterogasi oleh pemerintah setempat. Para kader kokmunis berkata kepadanya, “percaya kepada Yesus merupakan racun imperialisme dan itu sama-sama merupakan alat intervensi asing. Kau dilarang percaya kepada Yesus. Bila engkau masih tetap saja mempercayainya, maka tindakan itu merupakan suatu perbuatan yang kontrarevolusi…“ Zizhong diminta untuk membuat pernyataan untuk meninggalkan gereja ! Dengan sangat tenang Zizhong menjawab, “Yesus adalah juruselamat hidupku. Kalau aku menyangkalNya, berarti aku adalah orang yang paling tidak tahu berterimakasih… terus terang aku tidak sanggup melakukan hal itu.“ Setelah mereka mendengar jawaban Zizhong, para kader mulai menggertakan gigi dan dengan tinjunya, mereka mulai memukuli Zizhong dengan kejam.
Tahun 1969, ia dibebaskan dari penjara dan setelah tibab di kampung halamannya, kembali ia ditanyai “Setelah 15 tahun ada di camp kerja paksa apakah agama dan kepercayaan berubah ?” dengan penuh kesungguhan hati Zizhong menjawab “Setelah 15 tahun di camp kerja paksa iman percayaku tidak berubah, malah hubungan pribadiku semakin teguh, dan iman percayaku semakin kuat lebih dari sebelumnya.“ Akhirnya pada tahun 1970, ia ditawan oleh para kader dan dimasukan kedalam ‘kelas pendidikan ulang’.
Siksaan Terus Berlanjut !
Pada jam 08.00 pagi, di desa Dingyu, para kader yang membawa Zizhong dengan menyandang senjata, menaikan Zizhong keatas panggung. Di atas panggung ini mereka menyuruh Zizhong untuk mngakui kejahatannya dan memaksanya untuk menyangkal Yesus. Saudara-saudara seiman yang ada dibawah panggung melihat wajah Zizhong diliputi oleh sinar kemuliaan Allah seperti seorang malaikat. Dengan acuh tak acuh, Zizhong berkata, “ Keluarkanlah pisaumu, dan belahlah jantungku. Engkau pasti akan tahu apa yang ada didalamnya.“ Setelah mengatakan hal itu, dengan suara keras ia mulai bernyanyi: “ Setialah ! Setialah ! Nyatakanlah itu dimana-mana!”
Ketika saudara-saudari seiman mendengar nyanyian itu mereka mulai meneteskan air mata dan dengan serta merta mereka semua membuka mulut dan turut bernyanyi bersama dengannya :
Setialah terhadap apa yang sudah diperbuat terhadapmu,
Setialah kepada Allahmu yang kudus,
Setialah! Setialah!
Sekalipun setiap orang menolakmu,
Sekalipun kesukaran menghadangmu,
Tetaplah teguh berdiri dihadapan Allahmu.
Izinkanlah Allah menyaksikanmu tetap setia.
Siang harinya, seorang kader yang paling kejam menghatamkan dengkulnya kek punggung Zizhong, kemudian mengikatnya dan memamerkannya di jalan-jalan raya. Zizhong meluruskan dadanya dan kemudian berjalan maju. Ia tahu, bahwa ia tidak berjalan seorang diri, sebab Allah ada bersama dengannya. Setelah beberapa langkah, para kader yang kejam itu menanyainya lagi, “Masihkah engkau tetap percaya kepada Yesus? “
Zizhong menjawab dengan tegas, “ Aku percaya dan akan tetap percaya sampai pada kesudahannya.“ Setelah selesai mengucapkan kata-kata itu, seseorang memukul kepalanya dengan sebuah palu kecil. Dan segera timbul benjolan dikepalanya. Setelah ia melangkah beberapa langkah lagi, mereka kembali bertanya, “ Masihkah engkau tetap percaya ?”
Dengan suara tegas dan keras ia menjawab, “ Aku tetap percaya sekalipunn engkau memukuliku sampai mati, aku akan tetap percaya.“ kader yang bengis itu kembali memukulnya dengan palu dan muncul lagi benjolan lain dikepalanya. Sementara ia berjalan, mereka semakin sering memukul dan menamparnya dan smakin banyak benjolan muncul dikepalanya. Setelah berjalan lebih dari setengah kilometer, mereka sudah memukul kepalanya berkali-kali sehingga kepalanya biru membengkak, hampir sebesar buah labu. Matanya tenggelam masuk kedalam wajahnya yang membengkak itu.
Ia dipamerkan melewati etalase-etalase toko. Disana ada tumpukan batu. Orang-orang kejam ini menggunakan pisau mereka, kemudian mendorong tubuh Zizhong kedepan sehingga ia terjatuh dan mengenai batu. Tangnnya diikat dengan sangat keras sehingga ia tidak mampu menyangga keseimbangan tubuhnya. Akibatnya, tiga buah tulang rusuknya patah karena benturan dengan pinggiran jalan yang tidak rata. Para kader yang bengis itu kembali mengangkat tubuh Zizhong dan memaksanya untuk berdiri. Tetapi wajah Zizhong sudah berubah menjadi sangat pucat. Darah mengalir melalui mulutnya, akibatnya dengan susah payah ia berusaha untuk menghirup udara. Tanpa belaskasihan sedikitpun para kader menghajar kembali Zizhong sementara ia berjalan.
Ketika melewati WC umum, para kader melemparkan topi Zizhong kedalam perigi jamban dan dengan menggunakan gala bambu mereka membenamkan topinya kejamban tersebut supaya kotoran manusia yang ada disitu melumuri dan meresap kedalam topi tersebut. Kemudian mereka menarik topi itu dan memasangkannya kembali ke kepala Zizhong. Kotoran manusia mengurcur dari kepalanya, mengalir ke wajah dan lehernya, dan terus meresap ke bajunya. Kemudian, salah seorang dari kader itu menggunakan dua potong bambu untuk mengambil onggokan kotoran anjing dan segera menyumpalkannya kedalam mulut Zizhong. Zizhong mengunci mulutnya rapat-rapat, tetapi mereka tetap melumuri mulut dan bibirnya dengan kotoran anjing yang berbau busuk itu. Zizhong membuka mulutnya dan mulai berusaha untuk memuntahkan kotoran anjing yang melekat dipermukaan bibirnya, tetapi yang keluar malah beberapa bongkah darah segar.
Orang-orang kejam ini kemudian membawa Zizhong kesebuah pohon besar dan menggantungkannya tinggi-tinggi kemudian, mereka melemparkan batu kearahnya sambil memakinya, pada waktu yang bersamaan, Zizhong segera jatuh pingsan dan ia ditinggalkan begitu saja. Tubuh Zizhong dibawa oleh saudara-saudari seimannya dan dibaringkan diatas tempat tidur yang empuk.
Akhirnya Zizhong sadar kembali. Ia tidak sanggup membuka kelopak matanya, tetapi ia mendengar suara isak tangis dari saudara-saudari seimannya yang sedang menangisi dirinya. Dengan susah payah ia berusaha untuk membuka mulutnya dan berkata “Saudara-saudariku yang kukasihi, janganlah menangisi aku, tetapi tangisilah bangsa pemberontak ini, tangisilah orang-orang kampong yang belum percaya ini dan juga para pemimpin kita yang berdosa.“ pagi hari dibulan Oktober tanggal 18, 1989, lebih dari seribu orang saudara-saudari seiman memakamkan ‘Saudara Tua dan Bapak di Dalam Tuhan’ ini disebuah pegunungan. Sementara mereka menurunkan peti mati itu kedalam liang lahat mereka semua menyanyikan lagu “ Waiting for the Lord’s Return to Meet Again!… Hamba Tuhan yang setia, beristirahatlah didalam Tuhanmu.
