Affiliate marketing is not a make money quickly scheme these days – and quite frankly, I don’t think it ever actually was. Back in the day, it was fresh and new, unsaturated if you like. It was relatively easy to pick a niche and start a journey towards success. But even then, affiliate marketers who made it were those who were persistent and who understood that success doesn’t happen overnight.
Today, if you enter the affiliate marketing arena unprepared you will get chewed and spit back out in a matter of weeks. Even though affiliate marketing programs are a lucrative industry which is open to pretty much everyone, there are still pitfalls you will want to avoid.
Avoiding the most common affiliate marketing mistakes will keep you from losing time and money and fast-track you to success. Read, remember, and apply – I can only wish someone was handing out these golden nuggets of advice when I was starting out!
Not focusing on list building
Your most important job as an affiliate marketer is to build and nurture your email marketing list. Actually, scratch that – you should build and nurture lists, plural. You’ve heard it a million times: the money is in the list.
If you can build a quality list you will get an opportunity to reach out to your potential customers on a regular basis. Not every single one of your emails will focus on promoting an offer, though. When you are not selling, build rapport and think of ways you can help those people solve their immediate problems.
You will establish yourself as someone who cares and is involved – when people trust you it’s much easier for them to take your word and try out a product or products you’re promoting. Your own lists give you an opportunity to do just that; to establish yourself as a familiar face that is in it for more than just money.

Constantly selling
It’s not your job to hard-sell the products you are promoting. Well, actually it is but your potential customers should never, ever get a whiff of it! You’re there to help! If you manage to position yourself as a trusted, unbiased advisor that just happens to have a helpful link you will start seeing more conversions.
Leave the in-your-face sales pitches to sales pages you’re linking to – that is why they are there after all. If you did a good job in selecting your offers the only thing you will need to do is give your honest feedback on them and nudge the prospective buyers to give them a try. If you manage to give out as much help as you can upfront and without asking anything in return, you’re setting yourself up for success – the sales will follow.
Not knowing the metrics
If you’re not measuring your campaigns you will never get an idea about what’s working and what is not. In the end, it all boils down to whether or not your efforts and commitment are bringing in the money. Some of the key metrics are:

Promoting everything under the sun
Everyone who has ever done affiliate marketing is guilty of this one, at least once throughout their industrious marketing career. It’s tempting to dip your toe everywhere because the promise of a reward is great.
But here’s the problem – how can you sell, or promote, anything you’re not familiar with and how can you learn enough to be an expert on a huge number of products or services? You can’t.
That’s why it’s better to focus on a particular niche and vet a few good offers from there that you will start promoting. Start growing sales on your existing offers instead of always adding new ones to your portfolio. This is not only more manageable but also more profitable in the long run.
Doing what everyone else does
Weight-loss niche is a perfect example of an affiliate area that is busting at the seams. Everyone and their grandma is in it and the competition is fierce. If you’re set on making your money from this niche then be prepared to bring in something new and fight light hell.
My honest advice to you would be to try and drill into a topic and find a niche within a niche, something that’s not overly crowded but still has money-making potential. These unsaturated fringe niches are your golden ticket.
Also, make sure you develop your own marketing style. Everyone uses swipe files – that’s what they’re for – but successful marketers use them to get a sense of what is working and make them their own. They add a special little twist to them and make sure that they are appropriate for their audience. Copying stuff out verbatim means that you won’t be able to differentiate yourself; you will drown in the sea of identical marketing messages!
Promoting low-quality offers
Make sure that every single one of your offers is bulletproof. If you start promoting low-quality offers just because there is a fleeing demand for them, you can kiss repeat business goodbye. And guess what – the word will eventually spread and people who were duped by the seller will blame you and everyone else who pushed the offer in the first place.
On the other hand, if you’re really careful about what you promote and you have a string of satisfied customers you can bank on the fact that they will return. And not only that, they will probably recommend you to others as well so at the same time your both keeping your existing customers happy and engaged, and you’re growing your customer list.
These are all mistakes affiliate marketing newbies make and they end up costing them dearly. Some get disillusioned and quit, others struggle until they learn from their own mistakes.

Try to imagine this. When you're reading a story on the web or blog, you are given two choices. You can choose the next story based on your own choice. After selecting then you can continue reading the story. Shortly afterwards you will be presented back to the 2 other options. The next choice is up to you. If you feel curious then you can re-read the story by changing your selection. Then you will see a different story with the story that you have read previously. The question now is why is this so? Because the storyline will be varying according to your choice.
I, as the author is planning to make tens of thousands of articles with millions of choices in it. With tens of thousands of articles then you like to see a show of your favorite series on TV for several years. The difference is while watching your favorite TV series, then you can not change the story. Meanwhile, if you read this story then you can alter the way the story according to your own choice.
